Everyone Seems “Unbeatable” in MMA

If you ask the average MMA fan out there today, Jon Jones is so unbeatable, he would beat Anderson Silva easily if Silva jumped up to 205lbs for the possible super fight. Is it just me, or have we given this title to hundreds of people or sports teams only to be proven wrong 100% of the time? Think about it, everywhere in sports in general, it is said that people or teams are unbeatable. Has it ever actually occurred that way? Hell no it hasn't and it never will, especially in MMA, and Im going to tell you why.

Today, Jon Jones is unbeatable because he easily beat Shogun Rua for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Now, Ill be the first one to admit that I picked against him and he kicked enough ass to blow my mind. I am truly impressed by this young talent and I think he will be great for a very, very long time. However, is he unbeatable? Well, the answer is no because he is indeed human and everyone with that title before him has been defeated. Ok, lets start off with the very beginning of the UFC.

Do you remember when Royce Gracie was unbeatable? What happened? He was defeated. Do you remember when Mark Coleman and his new ground and pound style was unbeatable? What happened? He was defeated. Hell, I still remember that Pete Williams kick like it was yesterday, and I love seeing it still. Let's keep it moving through the unbeatables in this sport. Sakuraba was unbeatable until he was defeated. Fedor Emelianenko was unbeatable and actually won THIRTY fights in a row. Now people are talking about him like his name was Mark Hunt these days.

Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Wanderlei Silva, Brock Lesnar, George St. Pierre, and Anderson Silva have also shared this title at some point. Oh yea, what about Lyota Machida? Just two years ago, people were saying that he might be the best pound for pound fighter in the world. People were saying that if Anderson Silva would ever fight his teammate, he would be destroyed by Machida's quickness. Machida loses to Rua and now he is a bum that is facing being cut by the UFC. There are actually people picking an old man over him at UFC 129. Speaking of that old man, people once said that Randy Couture was unbeatable as well as Tito Ortiz. What about Frank Shamrock? Cung Le? I have heard so many people saying this exact thing in the MMA world, it is crazy.

Now, some people STILL claim that George St. Pierre and Anderson Silva is unbeatable...unless they fight Jon Jones and then they would be destroyed. Now, with all of that said, is anyone truly unbeatable? Hell no they are not. Now, is it possible that GSP, Anderson Silva, and Jon Jones goes the rest of their careers without being beaten? I doubt it and most of the people that truly follow MMA feel the same was I do. Besides, George St. Pierre is going to be the only man on the list that seriously TRIES to do this by padding his opposition. He won't jump up in weight, so the truth is that he is just going to be beating up on 170 lb men for the rest of his career. He very well MIGHT go undefeated for the rest of his career, but its only because he is hell bent on playing it safe to “safe guard” his “legacy”. It seems to me that he cares more about that than being a real competitor, but that's just my opinion.

Anderson Silva or Jon Jones? Chances are that these two men will fight each other some day, so, one of them will be taking a loss more than likely at the least. Truthfully, I think Anderson Silva would destroy Jon Jones, but even he, I don't think is unbeatable. There is no such thing because people all over the world are training harder and smarter as the sport evolves. There will never be someone that just can't be beat.

So, sorry to all of you “Jon Jones ban wagon jumpers”...The truth is that Mr. Jones will be beaten some day and then you will be calling someone else unbeatable. The Jones era will eventually end up with the Machida era, which is a THING of the past. Will it happen as quick as the Machida era? Who really knows, it is possible as he is set to defend his title against a former champion and top ten fighter in the division in Rashad Evans. Most people give Rashad Evans no chance at all, but a lot of those same people gave Shogun no chance in the first fight against Machida and we saw how all of that played out.

You know what? We might see Yushin Okami beat Anderson Silva again at UFC Rio...We might see James Shields beat George St. Pierre at UFC 129...We might see Rashad Evans beat Johnny Jones and we might see Brock Lesnar end the “unbeatable” mystique of Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez in the near future and then see Overeem end his. You never really know these days, but one thing is for certain...No one man is UNBEATABLE, but MMA fans will always throw this label around like its pu**y from a chick in Vegas. No one is unbeatable...no one.
