Fedor Emelianenko at 205lbs?
Reports are out that Fedor is about to drop to the Light Heavyweight Division which excites the shit out of me in so many ways, I don't even know what to think. First off, let me start this article off right now by saying that at the age of 34, Fedor Emelianenko (31-3-0-1) is not done in MMA and I find it completely disrespectful that people are saying that he is done after the first two real losses of his career. Let me ask why that is? So, if he didn't go undefeated for his entire career, he needs to retire? What the fuck are you people talking about? Fedor got caught slipping in the Fabricio Werdum submission and in NO WAY got his ass kicked. Antonio Silva kicked his ass because he was HUGE and Fedor just couldn't keep him off of him. Fedor has only gotten his ASS KICKED one time in 35 professional fights. Don't yall realize that?
Now, moving on, a drop from Heavyweight to the 205 division guarantees one thing. It means that there will be no more REAL size advantages against Fedor. Fedor has been battling with these giants his entire career and a drop to 205 will refresh him in my opinion. Plus, look at all the great fights that are actually out there. Let's look at the first obvious fight which Strikeforce can put on RIGHT NOW between their champion, Dan Henderson and Fedor. I think Fedor would destroy Dan Henderson quickly and prove that he still has what it takes. Does anyone have a problem with Fedor getting an immediate title shot? I do not because I recognize we may only have 3-4-5 fights left from Fedor and I do NOT want it wasted on Babalu Sobral or Stephan Bonnar.
I see we give Fedor the match with Dan Henderson right out the gates if Randy Couture is going to be too busy to take the fight. If Couture is willing to take the fight in June or July, I say fuck the Dan Henderson fight and lets just bring us the Couture vs. Fedor fight right out the gate. Hell, they can even meet at a catchweight if Fedor has trouble cutting for his first fight at 205. I think Fedor would completely DESTROY Couture OR Dan Henderson for that matter. The decision would have to be made immediately whether Zuffa keeps Fedor with Strikeforce or moves him over to the main brand, being the UFC. If he remains in Strikeforce, that means he is going to basically finish off his career by DESTROYING the likes of Henderson, Sobral, King Mo, and eventually Gegard Mousasi. The thought of this makes me sick, but atleast he would be back on top....
I say fuck that! I say lets get him over at the UFC brand and immediately give him Randy Couture. Now, he could still get Couture if Couture loses to Machida and Dana White decides to give us a Couture vs. Fedor fight for STRIKEFORCE to attempt to generate some SERIOUS Strikeforce revenue. But, back to the UFC option...In the UFC, we can start off with Couture vs. Fedor...Fedor would win that and then we have some SERIOUS options with the likes of RAMPAGE JACKSON, ANDERSON SILVA, SHOGUN RUA, RASHAD EVANS, PHIL DAVIS, JON JONES, TITO ORTIZ, CHUCK LIDDELL (Yes, he could come back), FORREST GRIFFIN, RYAN BADER, etc...
My point is, that in the UFC, there can be some SERIOUS QUALITY FIGHTS before the end of Fedor's career and some serious money to be made. Hell, we could always do a NOGUEIRA and FEDOR IV...We could do LITTLE NOG and FEDOR. God, there are so many different options to be honest. The only fights I would even wanna see from Fedor at Heavyweight is maybe Mir, Nogueira, and Dos Santos. I think that Cain and Brock would give him the same exact problems that BIG FOOT Silva gave him.
Fedor at Light Heavyweight is an amazing thing for MMA right now and I truly hopes that he makes this move. Most of all, it would prove to all of the Fedor critics that Fedor is STILL one of the best pound for pound fighters in the entire world. Fedor is still the LAST EMPEROR and still the greatest Heavyweight of ALL TIME. Now can he drop to 205 and make an impact there? We can only hope and pray that Dana, M-1, and Fedor sit down and makes this work. Wow, the options are amazing.
